Pond from the north

Another frosty day, with the sunlight on the ice over the pond quite beautiful.  At this time of year – bar the ice – the pond is quite clear, but the shoots of yellow flag are already sticking up through the surface.  In a few months they will have bloomed, and the sweet reed grass will be dominating the view.  In the glade, the scene parallels the pond, with sunbeams filtering through the bare trees, and casting shadow across the frosty grass.

The bird boxes we installed last September are very visible – and I assume to great tits and other small birds, but as yet, I’ve not seen any signs of nesting.  Above as ever there are parakeets, and today also magpies making a racket.

I’m looking forward to spring.
