Thanks to everyone who came along – here are some pictures from the day
Immediately after our AGM, the Friends of Dacres Wood will open the reserve to visitors between 1.00 & 4.00 Saturday June 27th, with equipment available for kids (and adults) to do some pond dipping.
You are invited to Friends of Dacres Wood Nature Reserve AGM at 12-1pm. Please come along if you wish to be involved in your local nature reserve. We are also seeking new members for the committee and the current Chair & Treasurer will be stepping down.

Afterwards, from 1-4pm the reserve will be open for the June Open Day where you can come and do some Pond Dipping and generally enjoy the space.

You are invited to meet Claudio Bincoletto, farmer, chef, forager and environmental expert, on his visit to Dacres Wood Nature Reserve, and share in an experiment in sustainable local production of oyster mushrooms.
(Note – there is an entrance fee for this event)

10.30 – 12.00
Claudio will talk about his work, and how responsible foraging can help us all. There will also be a nature walk and activities for children, let by Ema Felix of Secret Adventurers
12.30 – 2.00
Preparing and eating Risotto primavera and Wild herb frittata. Claudio will be using wild herbs sourced from the reserve and a neighbouring garden. Only 20 servings will be possible, but guests are welcome to bring their own picnic as well.
2.30 – 3.30
Fungus workshop. Claudio will be preparing recently felled sycamores for the production of oyster mushrooms by drilling them with 200/250 inoculated plugs. There will also be opportunities to help our conservation volunteering for those suitably dressed.
- Entrance £5 adults, children free
- Risotto primavera £5 – limited to 20
- Oyster mushroom plug sponsorship – £1 per plug
Plug sponsors will be entitled to a share of any mushrooms we produce – which can be expected to last from 2016 – 2018 – so please stay in touch!

Your contributions, and any donations, will go to support the work of the Friends of Dacres Wood.

Weather conditions – e.g. high winds – may result in cancellation for safety reasons, in which case another date will be provided.
There is a risk of slipping or tripping when visiting the actual reserve, to which there is no disabled access. Visitors much wear sturdy footware and other appropriate dress.
No one should attempt to enter the pond.
Contact with vegetation or wildlife may trigger allergic reactions
Children under 12 years old must remain the direct responsibility of an accompanying adult.
A formal risk assessment has been prepared by Claudio Bincolleto as required by his Public Liability insurance, and will form the basis for advice to be given before entering the reserve.
Coming up next weekend (Saturday, 29th June) is the June open day for the nature reserve. The reserve is open from 12pm- 3pm. Refreshments and free tours will be available. If you feel like “mucking in” then feel free to bring some gloves, as the Friends and volunteers will be tidying up and maintaining the site.
It is also our first ever AGM of the Friends of Dacres Wood Nature Reserve. This is from 11am – 12pm. The agenda is as follows:
1. Apologies for absence.
2. To receive the committees report and financial statements of Friends of Dacres Wood Nature Reserve for the year ended 30th June 2013.
3. Appointment of Committee
5. Any Other Business
In Saturday, 26th July from 1-4pm, there is an open day in the Dacres Wood Nature Reserve.
Ema Felix, who runs a nature group for small children, will be helping the friends of Dacres Wood to run a creatures and critters day.

– tours of the reserve
As usual tea and coffee will be available.

Bring good quality unwanted items Take something you need – all free!!!!
WHAT TO BRING
NB: all items must be in good condition and clean. Items should be re-usable and easily portable. Examples of acceptable items:
- Immaculate clothing adult and children’s clothing
- CDs and DVDs
- Objet d’art
- Small electrical tems in good working order e.g. lamps, toasters, coffee machines
WHAT NOT TO BRING
Lewisham Council will no longer be taking away unwanted items after the event.
So please do not bring:
- Electrical items larger than a toaster e.g. no TVs, PCs, monitors, printers, scanners, DVD/VHS/CD recorders/players, vacuum cleaners
- VHS or cassette tapes
- Adult bicycles, furniture, carpets
- Any item not suitable for domestic recycling
There is a depository at the rear of Sainsbury’s car park for small electrical waste.
