Thank you very much for showing an interest in Dacres Wood. It was great to see so any of you there on Saturday and to know that there are so many people in the local area willing to help in some way and to champion the reserve. We were also fortunate enough that someone put their name forward to act as Chair – so thanks very much to Claire Weedon!
As promised at the meeting, I have set up a distribution list of interested people. There are a few of you who showed and interest but were unable to attended the meeting, therefore I am writing to ask if you are happy for me to pass on your details to the new Chair so that she can email you about future events and meetings?
There are a couple of events already organised for the site;
Saturday 30th September 2012, 1pm-4pm – Nature Reserve Open Day
Saturday 27th October 2012, 1pm-4pm – Bring and Take Day
I understand that a meeting has been proposed for 12.30pm on Saturday 30th September before the Open Day, but Claire will be bale to confirm this once she has all your details.
To help get the Friends Group established and to start things moving Nick and I agreed to
1.) Set up a distribution list of contacts
2.) Set up a plan/schedule of nature conservation/volunteer pond work, (+request volunteers for a work gang)
3.) Explore installing a combination lock on the field centre gate that would enable independent access to site for friends and other suitable organisations
4.) Put together a bid to Perry Vale ward assembly for pond restoration work
5.) Explore with the group regular opening and monitoring of the reserve to be carried out by volunteers
I will put a bid together today for the Perry Vale Ward assembly and discuss with the Chair and a couple of members of the Forest Hill Society as this needs to be in by Friday.
Thanks again to you all for showing an interest in the site, I feel that this is a very big step towards making positive improvements to this unique site.
