I don’t think we’ve had any rain in the last two weeks, maybe more, and the pond is receding, while the London clay soil is showing cracks. Pete has a key to the reserve, and has been in a few times now, spotting new species, available in Excel here, and mapping locations of plants on our map.
Next week, before their inflorescences die back I’ll focus on the various grasses Pete has identified, but this week I took just one. My favourite picture this week was of a minute frog, much smaller than the shield bug right next to it, and one of hundreds hopping around by the pond margin, so small it’s hard to see them until they move, when it seems more like a cricket or grasshopper jumping.
