The first thing I saw this week was a wood pigeon (it might have been a stock dove) at the entrance eating elderberries, who flew off before I could get the camera out. But it set me thinking about what does happen to all the fruit on the reserve, as we approach Autumn. I guess pigeons will also eat blackberries, but other birds? What eats the berries of Arum Lilies?
It’s not just birds, of course – we are starting to get wasps, enjoying the ripe fruit, and mould which are beyond my powers of identification.
Apart from this, I was happy to see that the water mint is at last in flower.
